About

The Tasting Room Traveler is my wine-education journey, shared one winery tasting-room at a time. My goal is to learn as much about wine (and the wine industry) as I can, while taking you along for the ride. One of the benefits of living in Napa, my new home, is that many tasting rooms offer free tastings to locals – a benefit I intend to take full advantage of, with you as the added beneficiary. I am the Tasting Room Traveler, visiting, sampling, and sharing with you as many winery tasting-room experiences as I can.

The story of how this blog started really begins a few years back with a road trip from California’s North Coast home to Sacramento. My wife and I had just spent a romantic Thanksgiving weekend together (just the two of us) at The Sea Ranch, a favorite vacation spot. As we wound our way through Northern California, we were stricken as usual by the incomparable beauty of California’s wine country. I told my wife, “You know, Tuscany really ain’t got nothin’ on California. Why don’t we live here?”

During that drive, we suddenly realized that we now both had careers that we could pursue from just about anywhere – and started kicking around the idea of actually moving to these valleys full of fertile vineyards. Fast-forward to two years later, and we now live in Napa. My wife is a teacher at a local school, and I am looking to wind down my freelance practice and find a full-time marketing position at a winery. This blog is essentially a way for me to learn as much as I can about wine and share everything I learn with you, my readers.

I hope you enjoy the journey as much as I do!

-Dan
